Milwaukee M18 Brushless Compact Drill/Hammer Drill/Impact Driver Review

Milwaukee used compact brushed drills until now. They were Fuel-branded brushless drills. Although the Fuel models are more powerful than compact brushed drills, they are also larger and heavier. Users also wanted compact brushless just like the other top brands had as they offer the size and weight users demand. Milwaukee released new brushless models that included a compact drill 2701-20, a compact hammer drill 2702-20, and a brushless impact driver 2705-20.

Its amazing how compact these new drills are coming at an extremely short 6-7/20 cm length on the compact drill and 7-3/20 cm length on the hammer drill. These drills are compact and lightweight. I’ve seen other compact 18-volt drills, but this one is the best. This compact drill is even smaller than the M12 brushed drill, which means that the new drills will soon be in 12V territory. The new brushless impact driver is short in length as well coming in at 5-3/20 cm making it shorter than the fuel impact driver. Although it is quite short overall, it is also shorter than most 18V impact drivers. The compact lengths on all these brushless power tools means you will be able to fit into tighter spots where previous drills wouldnt be able to. It is much easier to use these power tools than larger, heavier ones.

Performance wise, these new brushless models are very similar in performance and features as the brushed models yet are even more compact than the brushed and Fuel brushless models. They even look nearly identical as the current second generation brushed M18 compact drills and impact driver.

There are three options when it comes to choosing the M18 line of drills or impact drivers. These include the M18 brushed compact drilling and impact driver, M18 brushless compact drilling and impact driver, and the Fuel premium brushless drills, impact drivers and drills.

There are no differences between these Fuel models. Other than the performance, the drills perform the same way as a compact drill. The impact drivers are a completely different story. You get a couple more features with the Fuel impact driver such as the one handed chuck and 3 speeds. The new brushless impact driver is exactly the same feature wise as the current brushed single speed impact driver as you get a single speed although the variable speed trigger lets you fine tune speed for smaller screws and you get the 2 handed chuck where you need to pull the chuck sleeve to insert and remove bits.

These are a great addition for the M18 line. There was a need for an 18V brushless drill/hammer drill. The new brushless impact driver is a great complement to the brushless drills. Also all the new brushless power tools are priced under the Fuels premium price tag for those looking for brushless and that want to save a bit of cash and dont need the extra features and performance that Fuel has to offer.
