New Ego 53 Cm LM2142SP Self-Propelled Dual Port Mower With Peak Power. Can Use Two Batteries Together

Ego has now come out with a new 53 cm LM2142SP Self Propelled Mower With Peak Power that can use two batteries together for increased runtime and efficient power draw.

Egos mowers used one battery up to now. I thought that was great, as it allowed for more time when combined with the 7.5 and 5.0 ah batteries. It was, at least for me. When battery powered mowers started gaining traction, many of them had dual battery compartments. Because runtime was not very long in the beginning, many of these dual battery compartments were available as storage. It was possible to change the battery on-the-spot without needing to return to the garage to retrieve the second one. Honestly I liked Egos approach of one battery being enough however theyve probably saw a market for homeowners that needed more runtime than what they currently offered with one on-board battery.

Egos latest 53 cm self propelled mower houses and can use two batteries together at the same time so no need for swapping batteries in the yard. Only one battery is needed to operate while the second battery extends runtime. According to Ego, it will draw power from both batteries if two are inserted rather than switching to the other when one runs out. The mower itself looks very similar to Egos first 53 cm self propelled mower, which is the one I currently use however the biggest change seems to be the double battery slot on the motor mount and a reference to something called Peak Power technology. They dont go over what this means exactly but its probably a marketing term for its variable speed speed motor that runs at peak performance for each situation. I expect it to operate much like the first Ego 53 cm self propelled mower where it uses only the needed amount of torque and speed to cut grass so its optimized for runtime. It runs at a minimum speed and then ramps up when it is required. It is possible that this exact system was used in the 53 cm self-propelled mower, but it has been given a new marketing slogan to make it sound better or more modern.

The Ego power plus website states that the new mower can run for up to 90 minutes. However, that is inconsistent with what their manual says. It claims that it can last up to 120 minutes using two 7.5 ah batteries (not supplied) and up to 80 minutes using two 5.0 Ah batteries (included). These runtimes can be reduced for heavy loads, which can take up to 40 minutes with two 13cms and up to 60 minutes with the two 19cms.

Other features include 6 position deck height adjustment, dual head lights, variable speed self propelled and can bag, mulch and side discharge.

This new mower is available as a complete kit that includes two 5.0 Ah batteries and their fast charger. I would have preferred if they included a dual charger but seeing as they dont have any and because it only requires one battery to operate, it shouldnt be too big of a deal.
